Skógafoss, which runs from a river bearing the same name, falls gracefully off a 60 meters high ledge. On the right hand side of the waterfall is the starting point of a popular hiking route that takes you up 1000 meters into a mountain pass (Fimmvörðurháls) and over to Þórsmörk which is an unexpected haven that sits in between the glaciers and is known for its lush vegetation.
